New Day Resolutions!
“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” ~Lao-Tzu
2013, a brand new year! A chance to start something new, or a chance to take something old in a new direction.
Doesn’t matter what it is, there is just something so intoxicating and liberating about knowing that when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st of any given year, you have a legitimate right and reason to say I am starting a new.
However, after about a week, that new year high wears off, and for most they feel like they are right back where they were on December 31st 11:59pm. Well, it doesn’t have to be that way. Let’s make our own rules. Every day at 11:59pm is a new day so every day you have the ability to start anew. While we don’t celebrate it with fireworks and toasts or passionate kisses, what is more important is that we welcome it with a breath of air that means we are alive and that is all we need to proceed with New Day Resolutions!
New Year’s goals vary, but a few are notoriously made. Losing weight, quitting smoking, etc. are huge, but these are goals that take several months to accomplish at best. Lets simplify and look at goals that are smaller and we can build on. Here are my 5 great daily goals that help me build on my bigger goals. Maybe you will adopt them too:
• Get 60 more minutes of sleep a day. In addition to being better rested, you will have greater focus and you can lose about 10 lbs for the year. You are a step closer to a goal of losing weight.
• Take 5 minutes a day to just do deep breathing techniques. It will reduce your stress and increase your oxygen flow, a proven method to lose weight.
• Replace one 8 oz beverage a day with water. Water the elixir of life! Every bit of your body will thank you with increased energy and vitality and you guessed it, weight loss.
• Laugh, smile and giggle. Look for reasons to do so and if you can’t find any, laugh at yourself, we all can find something to laugh at ourselves about. It is great for the psyche. You cannot smile or laugh and be mad at the same time. Believe it or not, studies show that daily laughter can help you stay slimmer.
So, some pretty simple daily resolutions can put you in shape both mentally and physically, ready to tackle the bigger goals. Isn’t that a new beginning that you can find success with? I am positive you can.

The New Day Resolution is an amazing idea! It was a hard step for me to replace even one beverage with water in the beginning, but now I just drink water from Monday to Thursday. (I like giving myself a pop break!)
Excellent Brenda! Isn’t it amazing how one little thing can make us feel so great about ourselves. Think how much sugar and calories you are saving a year!!! I New Day Resolutions, taking it day by day. Best of luck to you!

I look at Mondays as a clean slate, so that every week I get another chance to get things right. Sunday nights I write out what I hope to accomplish each of the next seven days, and then I wake up every morning with a list in hand of what the bare minimum accomplishment must be that day for me to reach my goals. I like the idea of the New Day Resolution, too, though. I think I’ll incorporate that into my schedule. Maybe it’ll help keep me on track throughout the week, too! Lord knows I need all the help I can get, LOLZ!
Andi-Roo, you got it! This year it was all about trying to NOT say ok that did not go as I hoped, so I thought why not renew everyday, this way I give myself a chance to course correct before it went too far and I am tempted to say oh men I blew it. I am glad you will incorporate my idea into your routine. Little by little, step by step, helping each other we get it done! Best of luck to you!
